A safe stool needs a wide footprint, splayed legs and strong stretchers—not just a thick top. Keep the platform around 400 × 280 mm and round every corner. Join the legs to aprons with mortise-and-tenons or housed joints, then add lower stretchers to prevent spreading. Cut the handhold before assembly and ease it with a round-over bit or rasp. Apply cork or rubber pads only after checking all four feet sit flat. This is load-bearing furniture, so reject cracked stock and test progressively before everyday use.
