Mill all chest sides to equal thickness and mark tails from a single baseline. Cut tails first, transfer them directly to the pin boards with a sharp knife, then pare only to the line. Dry-fit before adding a captured bottom in grooves; the bottom must float across its width. Use a frame-and-panel lid to manage movement. Practice on offcuts and secure every workpiece firmly before sawing or chiseling.
